Use FamFile in ChatGPT and Claude

Connect your FamFile account and ask about your kids’ schedules, pods and carpools right from ChatGPT or Claude. It can add events and claim carpool seats too, but only after you approve each change.

Connector URL

https://www.famfile.ai/api/mcp

You’ll need a FamFile account. Sign in with the same email you use on famfile.ai.

Connect Claude

  1. In Claude on the web or in the desktop app, open Settings and then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector, name it FamFile, and paste the connector URL above.
  3. Select Connect. Sign in to FamFile and choose Allow on the FamFile screen.
  4. In a new chat, turn on FamFile from the tools menu and ask away.

Using Claude Code? Run this, then run /mcp to sign in:

Connect ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings and then Apps.
  2. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode, then choose Create app.
  3. Name it FamFile, paste the connector URL above, pick OAuth for authentication, and create it.
  4. Sign in to FamFile and choose Allow. Then pick FamFile from the tools menu in a chat.

Developer mode is needed until FamFile is listed in ChatGPT’s app directory, and it is only offered on some ChatGPT plans.

Try asking

  • “What's on the kids' schedule next week?”
  • “When is registration due for the Stanford basketball camp?”
  • “Find a time Ava and Ben are both free for a playdate this weekend.”
  • “Are there open seats in the carpool to swim on Tuesday?”
  • “Add a dentist appointment for Ava on Friday at 3pm.”

What it can do

It can look things up on its own:

  • Get my family. Knows today's date, your time zone, your kids and your pods.
  • Get schedule. Reads your kids' (or a pod's) events and registration deadlines for a date range.
  • Find an activity. Finds an activity by name, like “the Stanford camp” or “tennis”.
  • Get week notes. Reads the notes pinned on a week in your planner.
  • List pod files. Lists files shared in your pods, like a camp packet or a waiver.
  • Find playdate times. Finds open playdate times for your child, or for two kids at once.
  • List pod children. Lists the kids and families in your pods.
  • Get child details. Reads your own kids' profile details: school, allergies, notes, emergency contact.
  • Get carpools. Lists carpool offers you can see, with open seats and who has claimed one.

These change your FamFile, so ChatGPT and Claude ask you to approve each one first:

  • Add an event. Adds an event to one of your kids' planners.
  • Change an event. Changes the title, date or time of an event your family owns.
  • Claim a carpool seat. Claims a seat in a pod carpool for one of your kids.

Privacy and control

  • It sees what you see. The connector signs in as you, so it can only reach your own family and the pods you belong to, under the same rules as the FamFile app. Other families’ private profile details stay private.
  • What it reads goes to the assistant. When ChatGPT or Claude looks something up, the result is sent to OpenAI or Anthropic so the assistant can answer you, and they handle it under their own privacy policies.
  • Nothing changes without you. Adding or editing an event and claiming a carpool seat always ask for your approval first.
  • Disconnect any time. In FamFile, go to Settings, Connected apps and choose Disconnect; the app loses access right away. You can also remove FamFile from your connectors in ChatGPT or Claude.
